At the Direction of the Ministry of the Environment, unlicensed bins (dumpster sites) in the District of Muskoka must be removed permanently. The District will be replacing these dumpsters with convenient, environmentally sustainable waste collection service.

This transition of service will also mean our community can increase waste diversion, ensure hazardous waste is disposed of properly, and expand the organics collection program.

The winter dumpsters shown on the map below will not be put into service in fall 2022:

  • Bin 49 Milne Road (Wood Lake)
  • Bin 69 Rignalls Road (Wood Lake)
  • Bin 11 Black River and Clear Lake Road (Clear Lake)
  • Bin 10 Bird Lake Road (Bird, Bigwind and Wood Lakes)

The District is looking for feedback from residents that use these winter dumpsters on long-term waste servicing options. There will be no change to summer waste collection. This survey has been developed in consultation with lake associations and community members.

We are also working with the Wood Lake Cottagers’ Association and Wood Lake Islanders’ Association to provide summer collection for Wood Lake water-access residents beginning in spring 2023. If you are a Wood Lake water-access resident please register online to receive updates about service for water-access residents.

Personal information is being collected pursuant to Section 28 of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and will be used for the purpose of garnering public input into the Bin Site Transition Project and to respond to inquiries regarding this process. Comments and input provided may form part of the project documentation and therefore be subject to disclosure pursuant to MFIPPA or other applicable legislation. Should you have questions regarding this collection, please contact Stephanie Mack, P.Eng. at 705-645-2100, District Municipality of Muskoka.
