Certain types of development projects require public notice, consultation, and the consideration of feedback, before a decision is made by the City. This process is an important component of the democratic function of planning.

Provincial law and the City’s Municipal Plan and Zoning By-law (municipal law) outline who can make a decision on what type of development application.

The following decision-making bodies are authorized to make decisions on development applications on behalf of the City. It is important to note that Council empowers the Planning Advisory Committee to make certain decisions on its behalf, and therefore cannot intervene and overrule a decision made by the Committee.

The following types of development applications involve public notice, consultation, and the consideration of feedback before a decision is made.
